ARPANET was a redundant backbone system designed by the military and was the network that eventually helped to create the Internet. It was initially used by the military for communications, but eventually ended up being used for communications between universities and research groups. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. It is a protocol for communications between computers that is also the standard for data transmission on the Internet.
